Disarming the Playground: Violence Prevention Through Movement & Pro-Social Skills Books and Training DVDs By Rena Kornblum Violence Prevention through Movement is a comprehensive curriculum that utilizes the body and mind as equal partners in developing the skills necessary for creating a safe world. A two-book set, complemented by two training DVD's, teaches protective and proactive behaviors tailored for aggressors, targets, and witnesses of aggression. Book set includes: The Training Manual presents the skills necessary for violence prevention and a rationale for their use. It reviews the theoretical framework that supports the Violence Prevention through Movement Curriculum, and offers teaching strategies to help you use the Activity Book successfully. The Activity Book presents the curriculum in a format that can be used by teachers, parents, social workers, dance/movement therapists, and other professionals. Step by step directions for all movement activities are provided as well as suggested props, effective sequencing of lessons, discussion topics and charts to measure progress. Also presented are pictorial handouts & parent letters that describe each of the main concepts. The Training DVDs supplement the book set, allowing the viewer to observe children actually engaged in the curriculum. Each DVD is approximately two hours long and covers about half of the curriculum. an overview of the curriculum. This video is helpful for introducing the

introduction to each unit with comments from children and teachers in
